  • Other: Dinah Runion She married Ed Cox and they farmed near Cherokee Church in Washington County. Some time in the late 1930's or early 1940's they moved to Washington, DC, where she kept house for one of her husband's relatives, perhaps his former mother-in-law. They lived in Washington DC during World War II, for I recall my mother, sister and I spending the night with them enroute to Boston to join my father in 1945. She returned to Tennessee about 1950 and passed away at my grandfather Runion's home. She and Ed did not have children. I remember as a child, I could never keep the relationships in this family straight - Dinah married Ed Cox, her brother Bruce married Mildred Cox (Ed's daughter), and her sister Jessie married Oscar Cox (Ed's son). On the one hand Bruce's and Jessie's children called Dinah 'grandmother', and on the other hand I knew the children, who were my first cousins, were also nieces and nephews to Dinah..1,2

  • Other: Guy B Runion My uncle Guy was a 'rounder' as they say, in his early years. He was let out of the Navy, then the Army, and spent some time on a chain gang in a Georgia jail sometime in the 1930's. He was a pretty rough customer and not one to cross, but I always liked him because he seemed to find humor in about everything. He did mechanic work for the county schools and farmed a small piece of ground across the road from the Cherokee Baptist church, Washington county, Tennessee. He was a mason and I have some Masonic jewelry given me by my father that originally belonged to Guy. He had no children and was divorced from his wife several years before his death from diabetes and other complications. He was full of vinegar, even after they 'whittled off another leg' as he put it..1
