Here is the link to A.J. Lewis' Civil War Journal journal. It may be viewed in its entirety here. Adoniram Judson Lewis was a unique individual and made the ultimate sacrifice to defend his country. His journal starts with his enlistment in the Union Army on 11 Dec 1862. He proceeds to explain his reasoning for joining the military as an unmarried 43 year old man. The journal continues until 11 Apr 1864 when he ends his what would be his final entry by opining, "I think we shall get good weather soon. It is a getting time for it." He then dies from "disease" three months and thirteen days later on 24 Jul 1864.
