Here is the link to Lee (Mercer) Brostrom's diary. It may be viewed in its entirety here. Many family members and friends are mentioned numerous times througout the diary. The diary is set in the last half of 1932 in Olympia, WA. During the tulmultous preceding 7 years, Lee had married, bore two daughters, buried her husband, remarried and bore her first son. The stock market crash of 1929 was still being felt across the nation and the world. Times were hard and basic necessities like food, jobs and money were in short supply. Some parts of the diary reflect the events of the larger world around them. It is difficult to read since the stresses are so real and personal. Lee was a strong woman in the early part of the 20th century.
