    Gene Earvin Cantrell, 66, Springfield, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009. During his life he worked as a Greene county deputy sheriff, he also worked for Cardins Circus, Thompson Auto Sales, Zenith and later as a semi truck driver. He was a member of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Gate of the Temple in Springfield, Mo. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69. He also belonged to Amvets Post 179 in Brighton, Mo. He was proud to serve his country as a United States Marine. He was a Vietnam veteran. He was preceded in death by his father, Earvin Cantrell; and his mother, Novella Hicks Cantrell. He is survived by a daughter, DaLana January; two sons, Jeffery and wife, Shelly, and Todd and wife, Pam Cantrell, all of Springfield; two brothers, Lowell Cantrell and his wife, Brenda, Shawnee, Kan., and Steve Cantrell, Little Rock, Ark; an aunt, Mary Hicks, Bois D'Arc, Mo; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2009, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, followed by burial with full military honors in Missouri Veteran's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Masonic Home of Missouri, 6033 Masonic Dr., Suite A, Columbia, MO 65202.
