Memorial services for Jerry Lynn Young, 52, Dallas, are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, October 17 at Sparkman Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Rd., Dallas. Jerry Lynn Young was born May 20, 1957 in Wills Point, Texas. Jerry lost his brave battle with colon cancer early Saturday morning, October 10, 2009. Taken too soon, he had many dreams left unfulfilled. Jerry was a kind and loving person who changed many lives for the better. He was a hard worker, starting work at age 12. Until his recent retirement due to his illness, he worked at Hutchins State Jail, Dallas dedicating many hours preparing the men in his program for re-entry into society. He was an avid gardener, who loved nature and shared his passion by giving his plants and vegetables to others. He was one of the founding members of St. Justin's Episcopal Church of Canton, TX. He modeled his life after St. Francis of Assisi by always helping the disenfranchised and loving all of God's creatures. His compassionate and caring nature will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Buck C. Young, and a brother, Stanley Buck Young. He is survived by his son, Chad Richmond Young of Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Bryan and Anne Cook Young of Dallas; nieces, Grace and Olivia Young, both of Dallas; and many aunts, uncles and other relatives.
