  • Immigration: Johannes Vanderburg immigrated from According to Thorold Centennial Book the earliest Vanderburgh settlers came from Holland in 1645 and settle in New Amsterdam (now New York). John and Eva came to Niagara area from the Mohawk Valley in 1784 with children. The first log cabin was built on the North side of Lot 118, Thorold Twp. in Allanburg east of the cemetery and was replaced before 1800 by a 2 storey home of hewn timber. The present frame house was built some years later and in 1858 a brick house was built on lot 142. Descendants of the first Vanderburghs still live on lot 141 and part of lot 142 of the orginal grant. The owner is Harry Vanderburg now deceased.1
  • Immigration: in 1784, Johannes and Eva (née Van Alstyne) Vanderburg immigrated to Allanburg, Ontario, CanadaG, from New York. They came to Allanburg overland from the Bay of Quinte area in 1784 and they had lived in the Mohawk Valley in N.Y.
