    Ellen L. Runyan died on July 14 at age 95.

    She was born Ellen Lorene Hamnett on Dec. 18, 1914, in Newberg. Her family attended the First Christian Church of Newberg, where she met and married SAM RUNYAN. They moved to Camas, Wash., for 25 years, while he was employed by the Crown Zellerbach Paper Company.

    In the late 1950s, Crown Zee transferred the Runyans to St. Francisville, La., promoting Sam to supervisor of the first racially integrated paper mill in the United States. His nearly 50 years in personnel administration and commitment to Crown Zee functions and activities ended at the West Linn mill.

    After 55 years of marriage, Sam succumbed to cancer in 1987. Ellen remained active in the family home and church activities for 20 more years. In 2007, she moved to an Edmonds, Wash., adult care home near her two daughters.

    She is survived by: daughters, Shari Nemours and her husband, Joseph, and Judy Henriksen and her husband, George; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends.

    A memorial service was held at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in West Linn on July 19; burial was at Mt. View Cemetery in Oregon City.
