    William Arthur Jones, 90, Smithville resident and DeKalb County native William Arthur Jones, 90, died May 2 at NHC Healthcare after a brief illness.

    The owner/operator of coin laundries in Sparta and Monterey, after graduation from Dibrell High School, he worked various positions including 24 years with government construction, building the Oak Ridge plant where the atomic bomb was developed. He received a certificate from the U.S. War Department in appreciation of his efforts. He was also dedicated many years in helping support Assembly of God churches located in Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

    He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ella Mae Delong Jones; sisters, Etheleon Williamson and Opheleon Williamson, both of McMinnville; nephews, Freddie, Ray, Joel, Doyle and J.F. Williamson, Woody and Royce Davenport, Stanley and David Williams, Ronnie Whitley, Thwaitt and Jack Wall; and nieces, Janice Maynard, Alvida Edelen, Bobbie Harrison, Melba Pedigo, Ann Webb and Lynn Cantrell.

    He was the son of the late Jesse P. and Roshie Marsh Jones; and was preceded in death by infant sister, Lila May Jones; nephew, Tyman Hollinsworth; and niece, Betty Smith.

    Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Smithville First Assembly of God with Rev. Glenn Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Keltonburg Cemetery in DeKalb County. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service today at the church.

    High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
