  • Anecdote: in 1778, at Fort Paris, Stone Arabia, Montgomery County, New YorkG, Johann Nickel Kilts The Revolutionary War seriously disrupted the Nicholas Kilts household. In his Revolutionary pension application (S13629), Nicholas's son, Peter N. Kilts, deposed that his father (Nicholas) and family were constrained to move into Fort Paris in the year 1778 before Peter had arrived to the age of 16.1

Fernow shows Nich's Kilts was a private in the company of Capt. Suts under Col. Klock and Nicholas Kiltz was a private under Capt. Miller, also under Col. Klock.
    Among the receipts collected by Col. Klock from his men for service during the Revolution is #19022 24 June 1786 due Nick's Kills pvt. under Capt. Peter Suts, received by Nick's Kilts his mark K, witnessed by Cornelius C. Beekman, for 2.13.4 (pounds-money) (New York State Archives).1
