He taugh t at various country schools there and was at one time principal of Amsterdam Academy.

    REF: Alexander G. Rose III, of Baltimore, Maryland, has reported, 1972, that the diaries of David Shepard, covering periods of time from 4 April 1795 to 29 Aug 1798 (totalling about 50,000 words), give an interesting picture of daily life in Ch ester, Massachusetts; Professor Rose plans to publish these diaries shortly..1
