  • Other: Charles Franklin Cunningham The date of Charles' birth is from census records. The probable date is 1835, but may be 1836. Date of death is determined by first 'Letters of Administration' filed after his death. These documents are dated 6 Jan 1876.
    Charles was a carpenter and small farmer. He was elected Justice of the Peace toward the end of his short life.
    We have an inventory of his possessions at death. They were: various carpenter tools, 2 lots bed quilts, 3 bedsteads, 1 feather bed, 6 chairs, 2 tables, 1 sewing machine, 1 wardrobe, 1 stove, 2 buckets, 1 lot dishes, 1 brass kettle, 1 iron kettle, 1 wash tub, 1 grind stone and frame, 4 pigs, 1 calf, 1 yearling bull, 1 cow white and brindle, 1 cow white and red, 1 fat hog, 1 plow, 1 grain cradle, 40 shocks of corn, 5 bushels of wheat, 1 grub hoe, 4 acres of growing wheat. The whole lot was valued at $171.25. Charles Franklin also owned 30 acres of land.
    At his death money was due him for work performed. This was against: John Williams $12.00; John Webb $11.50; Yager $14.00; Knob Lick Granite Quarry for 34 1/4 days work; Knob Lick Granite Quarry $4.75.
    The following was found by Toni Cunningham King.
    A government document headed, 'Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines and Widows etc.,' issued for Iron Twp, County of Iron, and dated June 1890 shows Frances as widow of Charles Franklin. He was a Private, Co. B, 68th regiment. The date of enlistment is not complete. It is given only as 186_. Charles' post office address is shown as Shermanville..1
