  • Military: in May 1780, Josiah Tanner military service, "Soon after marriage they located on the line of the Carolinas, possible in South Carolina, on the French Brood River, between Cowpens and King's Mt. Here, for the third time he enlisted in the military service of the Revolutionary Army, May 1780, in Capt. McBee's Co., of Col. Roebuck's regiment--enlisted for the period of 18 months and held the rank of Lieutenant in his company.

    Following October, he was in King's Mountain Battle, as part of Col. James Williams' force, and was wounded through the right elbow in this battle. He returned to his home 12 miles away, and was nursed by his wife, who had the floor partly removed, so her husband could escape to the brush if suprised by the Tories. She guarded her wounded husband at night, seated in an arm chair with a loaded musket at her side."1
