    The funeral for Tom Sirten, 75, of Lester, will be at 11 a.m. today at Salem Church of Christ with Terrell Pitts officiating. Burial will be in Legg Cemetery with Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.
    The body will lie in state from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. today at the church.

    Mr. Sirten died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence.

    He was a member of the Elkmont Church of Christ, former elder at Salem Church of Christ, NAVY veteran, co-owner of Athens Auto Repair and owner of Tom's Auto Service. He was also an avid knife collector.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 56 and a half years, Reba Sirten of Lester; one daughter, Linda Lewis and husband John of Elkmont; two sons, Thomas Glenn Sirten of Mobile and Tony Sirten of Nashville, Tenn; three grandchildren, Liana Carter of Killen, Jeremy Lewis of Elkmont and Tom Sirten of Nashville, Tenn; four great-grandchildren, Gil and Boone Carter of Killen, Thomas Grant Sirten of Nashville, Tenn., and Anthony Garland Sirten of Nashville, Tenn; two sisters, Mary Paul Colvett of Elkmont and Martha Newby of Athens as well as several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Irene Sirten, four brothers and one sister.

    Pallbearers will be Tom Sirten, Jeremy Lewis, R.L. Colvett, Bobby Colvett, William Spencer and Jim Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Newby, Chris Spencer, Chad Spencer, Curtis Usery, Milton Green and Edward Colvett.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Legg Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund in care of Delois Mason, 27359 Leggtown Road, Elkmont 35620 or the library at Elkmont Church of Christ.

    The funeral for James “Jim” Douglas Newby Jr., 52, of Elkmont will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Robert Fudge officiating. Burial will be in Pettusville Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-9 tonight at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Newby died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at home.

    Mr. Newby was born Feb. 1, 1956 to James Douglas Newby and Martha Sirten Newby in Limestone County. Mr. Newby worked as a jobsetter for Delphi before retiring. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran.
    In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Limestone County.

    Survivors include his wife, Michele Newby of Elkmont; son, Chance Tyler Newby of Elkmont; daughter, Brittany Nichole Newby of Elkmont; parents, James and Martha Newby of Athens; sisters, Deborah Williams of Athens, Pamela Newell and husband Troy of Summertown, Tenn; brother-in-law, Brian Stricker and wife Angela of Higbee, Mo; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

    Pallbearers will be Donnie Jones, Marty Blythe, Chaz Guenther, Corwin Clem, Phil Peterson and John Pooley.
