  • Other: Betsey Clark Stoddard Betsey Clark Stoddard was the fifth child born to Alonzo and Sarah (Frisbie) Stoddard. Born in Rutland County Vermont on 4 or 5 December 1860, she traveled with the family to Dakota Territory, arriving in April 1865. She married Johan M. Clementson on 1 January 1879 at Richland, Dakota Territory, and had two children, Winifred and William, by him. They lived in the Richland area until 1905, when they moved to Westfield, Iowa. Johan was a blacksmith, a carpenter, and ran a wagon-making and repair shop in Westfield. Johan died 15 January 1917. Betsey then married Herbert A. Ervin of Akron, Iowa, on 2 May 1927. Herbert was a brother of Lillie Luella Ervin, K.B. Stoddard's wife, so that one result of this marriage was that an Ervin brother and sister were married to a Stoddard sister and brother. Herbert was a barber, but later sold insurance. Herbert died 6 January 1933. After Herbert's death, and until her own death 31 October 1943, Betsey lived in Akron with her daughter, Winifred "Winnie" (Clementson) Hitzemann, and granddaughter, "Dotty" Clark. (Incidentally, the surname Clark for Dotty comes from Dotty's marriage to Lloyd Clark.) Betsey, Johan, Winifred and Herbert are buried in the Riverside Cemetery at Akron, Iowa..1

    Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, 2001 from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2001 at 9:00 A.M. at the Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, 14700 San Pedro Ave., San Antonio, with Rev. William Bruggeman and Associate Rev. Peter Manfred officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North Cemetery. Arrangements are with: Mission Park Funeral Chapels North.
