    Benjamin Earl Royal, Sr. was born November 6, 1915 on the family farm in Verdi, Texas. He was the eldest son of John and LoRena Royal. He had a half-brother, Daylon James, four brothers - Melvin, Cloyd, Ralph and R.A and a sister, Nelda Baylor. All six sons enlisted in the Army during WWII, which led to one of the family's favorite photographs, a picture of the brothers dressed in their uniforms. One cousin later named this "The Band of Brothers." After the war, Earl served Pleasanton, Texas as its fire chief and fire marshal, and was elected city alderman in 1946. About that time he also started working for Schlumberger Oil Well Service Company, the company he retired from in 1980. He married LaVerne (Johnson) in 1939 and had three children: Ben, Stephen, who died in 1985, and Glenn. He was loved and cared for dearly by his daughter-in-laws: Diane, Mary and Kim. He also had five grandchildren: Tracy, Aaron, Jacob, Stephen, and Mike and five great-grandchildren. LaVerne died in 1995 and Earl re-married later that year to Lorene (Stillman), a friend from Watters Road Church of Christ. Earl was blessed by the acceptance and love of Lorene's family: Victor and Brenda Estes, Sylvia and Don Spradling, and David and Marie Estes, their families and became their "Papa Earl". Lorene died in 2002 and Earl lived his last few years with Glenn and Diane of Seabrook, Texas and Ben and Mary of Mission, Texas where he died June 25, 2005. Visitation will be on Monday, June 27, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Forest Park East Cemetary. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. with interment following at Forest Park East Cemetary.
