    Velma Lavonia Simmons, 91, died March 8, 2018 at Capital Medical Center, Olympia Washington after a short illness.

    She was born May 26, 1926, in Atwood, Kansas to George and Effie Bosler.

    She came from a large family with six brothers and two sisters on the farm in Atwood Kansas. In 1940 the farm in Kansas was sold, and they moved to McCleary, Washington. She graduated from Elma High School in 1944.

    She married Leland Simmons on March 1, 1946. She was homemaker raising three sons on the eastside of Olympia and moving to Summit Lake in 1962. For several years, she worked as a Lab Technician for the Federal Dept of Agriculture, and later for the Washington State Dept of Agriculture; retiring in about 1980. They moved to the Olympia’s westside in the mid 1990’s; and after dad’s death she moved to Tumwater in 2013.

    Mom was grateful for having shared her life with her three sons; Jerry (Jackie) of Lacey, Tom (Gloria) of Yakima, and Randy (Linda) of Olympia; 10 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-great Grandchildren; her brother Nick C. Bosler (Chris) as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Leland (October 12, 1998), her parents; her brothers Leo, Cody, George, Jim, Raymond and sisters Alma and Della.

    There will be no public services at her request. Burial will be at Forest Funeral Homes and Cemetery, 2501 Pacific Avenue SE, Olympia, in the Simmons Family Plot.

    The family asks that memorials be sent to support Alzheimer's research or charity of their choice.7

He graduated from Toledo University School of Pharmacy. He lived the majority of his life in Cincinnati with his beloved wife of 62 years, Martha, who preceded him in death. He is survived by daughters, Carol Kelly of Delaware, Linda Zecher of Madison, N.J. and Debbie Tolliver of Lexington, Ky; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at BENNETT BROWN RODMAN FUNERAL HOME, 92 N.
