  • Anecdote: Odis Lee Copaus He enlisted for the United States Navy on August 17, 1942 in Dallas, Texas. Odis was killed in action at the Battle of Guadalcanal (specifically the Battle of Tassafaronga that took place on November 30, 1942.) It was a military campaign fought between August 7, 1942 and February 9, 1943 on and around the island of Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theater of World War II. It was the first major land offensive by Allied forces against the Empire of Japan. 7,100 casualties during this battle.

    Odis was on the battle ship USS New Orleans when it was hit by a Japanese Torpedo. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery during WW II. Other medals received were; Navy Good Conduct Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.1

They told me that Aubra Sr. and Mary was not married very long and after they divorced Mary's next husband adopted Odis.1
