He was an elder of Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he had been a Sunday school secretary. He was a member of the Union City Civitan Club. Mr. Thornton was the widower of Ava Thompson Thornton.

He was the previous owner of the Milan Cab Co. & Crown Limousines in Jackson. Mr. Akin is survived by his wife, Mary T. Stout Akin, 2 sons, Terry, of Greenfield, Randy (Katie) of Steamwood, IL. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Steven (Amanda), Ahley, Samantha, and 1 great grandchild, Tony.2
