  • Immigration: in 1837, Georg Philipp and Barbara (née Fuchs) Wagner immigrated to Kriegsfeld, Donnersbergkreis (Kirchheimbolanden), Rheinland-Pfalz, GermanyG, from Emigrated from Bavaria to the United States in 1837. Arrived shortly thereafter at Roscoe, Ohio with $8.50 in his pockets. Moved a short time later to Warsaw, Ohio. Finally settled in Tiverton, Ohio where he was a farmer. At his death he owned a 270 acre farm at Tiverton.

    Primary reasons for emigration from Germany from 1830 - 1840:
    Overproduction, overpopulation, unavailability of land, and the fact that mass-production had replaced the artisan worker caused many to decide to emigrate.

    In America at this time it was a period of prosperity. The Jacksonian democracy provided what many Germans had been striving for in vain. Many of the Germans leaving at this time were from the Rhein area of Germany; and they settled extensively in the areas of Ohio, Indiana and Missouri.
