Anecdote Anecdote: John Phillip Wagner was present after 6 May 1904, at Des Moines, Polk County, IowaG, when Elmore Willard Powell was sent to live with his Wagner Grandparents after his mother died. He was just 4 years old. He then moved with his grandparents to Washington State
     Others were: Angelina Sophina Wilson and Jesse Vermillion Powell.14
Anecdote Anecdote: John Phillip Wagner was present circa 1920, at Vancouver, Clark County, WashingtonG, when Jesse Vermillion Powell married about a year after his first wife, Mary Florence passed away. His son, Elmer Willard, went to live with his deceased wife's parents. Over the next twelve or thirteen years he and his second wife, Lenora M., produced a daughter and four more sons. Lenora passed away in July 1917 shortly after the birth of their son, Harry. In the 1920 census the four sons are all living in a juvenile home in Vancouver. The daughter, Agnes, is living with her Aunt and Uncle and family in Clark County, WA. Jesse is not present. He reappears by himself in the 1930 census. Jesse's headstone shows that he dies in 1934

    George P. Wagner was born on a farm near Coshocton, Ohio. May 3, 1864 and died at Peabody, Kans., Dec. 19, 1920 at the age of 56 years, 7 months and 16 days.

    When he was less than a year old his parents moved to Xenia, Iowa. In the fall of 1884, the family moved to Kansas, making their home on a farm 4 miles south of Peabody. Here he grew to manhood, following the vocation of farmer and thresher.

    He was united in marriage on Oct. 1, 1893 to Ella W. Blake of Peabody. He and his wife lived happily together through the years at their late home on Maple St. On June 30, 1920 Mr. Wagner was bereft of his partner of life.

    The deceased was a man of sterling character. His many friends will long remember his quiet bearing and unassuming disposition. He was a kind hearted husband, a generous friend and a faithful neighbor and citizen.

    Mr. Wagner united with the Peabody Presbyterian Church 5 years ago during a series of special services conducted by Evangelist Rayburn. Through the years be has been faithful in his religions relations. For several years he has held the office of deacon in the church. He was also an honored member of the Halycon Lodge No. 120 F. & A. M. of Peabody.

    There is left to mourn his passing one son, Dr. L. F. Quantius of McPherson, Kans., four brothers and four sisters, Philip Wagner of Portland Ore., Mrs. Lizzie Hall of Peabody, Kans., Jake Wagner of Iola, Kans., Minnie McNabb of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Rose Clark of Peabody, Kans., Charles Wagner of Los Angeles, Calif., William Wagner of Los Angles, Calif.

    Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Peabody Dec. 23. Conducted by Rev. S. B. Braden of McPherson. Interment was made in Peabody Cemetery. The Masonic service was held at the grave. Dr. and Mrs. L. F. Juantius Mrs. H. F. Aurell and Rev. S. B. Braden, all of McPherson, and Jake Wagner of Iola were here for the funeral.2
