Anecdote: Georg Philipp Wagner There are several discrepancies between this data and my own research.

1. The marriage date for Geo. Philipp and Barbara Fuchs (Fox) is 31 Dec 1829 in Kriegsfeld, Germany.

2. According to numerous accounts, Geo. Philipp and family migrated to America in 1837 not 1839.

3. My records show that Philip and Eva (née Stuber) had 11 children.

Immigration: in 1837, Georg Philipp and Barbara (née Fuchs) Wagner immigrated to Kriegsfeld, Donnersbergkreis (Kirchheimbolanden), Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany^G, from Emigrated from Bavaria to the United States in 1837. Arrived shortly thereafter at Roscoe, Ohio with $8.50 in his pockets. Moved a short time later to Warsaw, Ohio. Finally settled in Tiverton, Ohio where he was a farmer. At his death he owned a 270 acre farm at Tiverton.

Primary reasons for emigration from Germany from 1830 - 1840:
Overproduction, overpopulation, unavailability of land, and the fact that mass-production had replaced the artisan worker caused many to decide to emigrate.

In America at this time it was a period of prosperity. The Jacksonian democracy provided what many Germans had been striving for in vain. Many of the Germans leaving at this time were from the Rhein area of Germany; and they settled extensively in the areas of Ohio, Indiana and Missouri.

Bio: John Wagner, Coshocton. His father, Philip Wagner, deceased, was a native of Bavaria, Germany; his mother's maiden name was Barbara Fox. The family came to America in 1837, and settled at Roscoe, where he remained but a short time, then to a place near Warsaw, from thence he moved to Tiverton township and engaged in farming, which business he followed until his death, Oct. 8, 1874. When Philip Wagner came to Roscoe he had but $8.50 in money, but he had that which was better than gold, an honest heart, determined will, and a strong hand, which he used untiringly until he had earned and saved enough to secure forty acres of land. To this beginning he added until he had a good farm of 270 acres. John Wagner, the subject of this sketch, was born Dec. 8, 1835, in Bavaria, Germany, and shared the fortunes of his father's laborious and trying life until Nov. 27, 1859, when he was married to Miss Elizabeth Kaiser, of Holmes county, Ohio. This union was blessed with three children, one deceased, and two living, viz.: John F. and Margaret Emma. Mr. Wagner visited Dallas county, Iowa, with a view to settle there, in1868. But owing to the extreme severity of the winter and the ill health of Mrs. Wagner, returned to the old neighborhood in Ohio, where he remained until 1876, when he came to the city to attend to the duties of the office of treasurer to which he had been elected the previous year.
