HELENA — The Montana Department of Labor and Industry has awarded over $193,000 to a former bartender who filed a sexual harassment complaint against the Havre Eagles Club.

Human Rights Bureau hearings officer Gregory Hanchett on Friday found that KayCee Groven's supervisor, Thomas Farnham, repeatedly sexually harassed her over a period of years and that club officers and trustees did nothing to help her, the Great Falls Tribune reported Tuesday.

Hanchett's decision awarded Groven just over $49,000 for lost wages, benefits and interest, $75,000 for emotional distress and just over $69,000 in monthly installments over the next 2½ years to make up for the difference between what she is being paid at her current job and what she could have earned if she had been able to continue to work at the Eagles Club.

The Havre Eagles Club has 14 days to appeal. The club's attorney, Lindsay Lorang, declined to comment Tuesday.

After a hearing in Havre in December, Hanchett found that Farnham repeatedly grabbed Groven's breasts, buttocks and crotch and while on out-of-town trips tried to get her to share hotel rooms with him and have sex with him.

The decision found that Groven reported the harassment to club officials as far back as 2006. Trustee Earl Courtnage testified that he did "basically nothing" about Groven's repeated complaints.

Groven testified that Farnham's behavior escalated in the spring 2009. She quit her job on Sept. 13, 2009, two weeks after she said he grabbed her breast twice while in a car returning from Chinook. Farnham pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting Groven and was given a deferred sentence that included 30 days in jail.

Hanchett's decision said Havre Eagles Club trustees gave Farnham a written disciplinary warning for misconduct on Sept. 20, 2009. In March 2010, the national Eagles organization stepped in and Farnham was fired.

The trustees rehired him two months later, and he remained employed as general manager of the Eagles Club..
