  • Anecdote: at Carbondale, Jackson County, IllinoisG, James Jordan James was killed after being deputized to ride a train to Carbondale with a car full of voters to hear Byran ? speak. The conductor told him that trouble was brewing in the next car and he went to quell the disturbance. When he entered the car a shot rang out and he was killed instantly. He must have been a widower with a son, Ralph Jordan, who was raised by Bluford and Mary Martin Jordan.1
