    A. Claude Luse, 73 of 172 Glenwood Avenue, died suddenly at his home early Sunday morning. Retired for several years, Mr Luse was a member of the Mens Bible Class of the First Baptist Church I.O.O.F. Lodge and Meadville Grange.

    Mr Luse was the father of Pfc. Preston Luse, who was killed in Anzio Beachhead action May 28, 1944, and whose body was returned here for burial August 13, 1948. Mr Luse is survived by his widow, May; two daughters, Mrs Walter Battin of Mesa, Arizona; and Mrs John Hank of Meadville, and a son, Samuel of Galveston, Texas.

    Friends may call at the Byham Funeral Home, where services will be held Thursday at 2 pm, with interment following at Roselawn Memorial Park.1

He subsequently married the former Vera Thompson on Sept 9, 1943. Mr Bartholomew worked as a construction worker in Ohio.     Survivors, in addition to his widow, include three daughters, Mrs Viola Guinaugh of Levittsburg, Ohio, Mrs Eugene (Ione) Rader of Warren, Ohio, Mrs Raymond (Bonita) Godsave of Meadville; three sons, Robert, Jr of Levittsburg, Samuel of Warren, Ohio and Orville at home; three sisters, Mrs Elda Pratt, Granada Hills, Calif, Mrs Thelma Hills of Santee, Calif, and Mrs Edgar (Ruth) Ortman of Kent, Ohio; two brothers, Charles of Saegertown and Jay of Meadville, 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

    Preeeding him in death were two daughters a brother and two sisters. Friends may call from 7-9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Tuesday at the Waid Funeral Home. Further arrangements are incomplete.

Memorable Moments & Stories

  • Other: Leila Bell Price Leila was a slender and energetic lady and she was always very pleasant. In later years she was an avid Bingo player.

    Patsy Armstrong remembers she loved to have her hair brushed and would often fall asleep. She would have me count to 100 to make sure I did it long enough. It was a special time between us and I enjoyed being around her.

    They did not have indoor plumbing in their home, we used a hand pump in the kitchen for water, had a wood stove and a very cold (especially in the winter) dark and stinky outhouse way out back of the home. My favorite time to visit was in the summer when all the fire flies would come out. We would get jars and catch as many as possible and then we would take them with us up the narrow, dark stairwell to our bedrooms upstairs and watched as they slowly lost their glow. Many times we would put their yellow light on our fingers to make glowing rings. Grandma's home had a creek in the back yard and we would get to play in it in the summer but in winter it was too fast & deep or frozen. She taught me how to make bread pudding with raisens and it is still my favorite..1
