  • Military: Victor Henry Estes military service, served as a bombardier in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He flew 26 harrowing missions over Germany and France in B-17 bombers based in England, including a mission over Normandy on the day of the D-Day invasion of France. His plane suffered serious damage during his final mission over Germany, but was able to reach Switzerland before being forced to land. Vic was to be interned by the Swiss government for the duration of the war, but he escaped to France and was helped to return to England by the French Underground Resistance.1
