  • Bio: Stanley M. Pargellis. The poor lad. His father died a couple of months after he was born. According to a local newspaper article he was stricken with "lung fever" before the age of 2. His mother died before he was 5 rendering him an orphan. He was subsequently adopted by his paternal aunt and uncle and moved from Ohio to Texas.

    He managed to succeed at life in spite of these ominous beginnings. He earned a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University in London and went on to become a professor at Yale University. He taught History at Yale and then was chosen to be the Librarian for the prestigeous Newberry Library in Chicago.13
