  • An Obituary for William Burgess Spence appeared on Thursday, 22 Jan 1948, in The News-Courier, Athens, Alabama. W.B. Spence

    W.B. Spence, 73, life-long resident of Pettusville and faithful member of the Methodist Church, passed away at his home Sunday, January 18, after a week's illness at 12:30 p.m.

    Rev. J.S. Martin, assisted by Rev. R.F. McDonald, conducted the funeral rites. A Masonic ceremony was also heald. Rainey of Ardmore was in charge of burial.

    Mr. Spence is survived by his wife; four sons, Thomas of Decatur, Carl and Arthur of Athens, and Frank of Guntersville; one daughter, Mrs. T.W. Pettus of Veto; two half-brothers, Grady of Athens and John of Chattanooga; one half-sister, Mrs. Carl Robison of Elkmont; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

    Serving as pallbearers were Alvin Robison, Ben Whitfield, Max Head, Max Hodges, Carl Robison and Joe Darnell.
