ActivityDetails
Moved Moved: in 1840, William D. Robinson moved with William Robinson and Sophronia Kelch from from Syracuse, New York. Moved with their entire family and belongings. The family now included Margaret Alexander, the wife of John. The journey of more than 400 miles was made with ox-teams along the Erie Canal to the town of Erie, then by boat across Lake Erie to Monroe, Michigan and from there by ox-team to Farmington, Michigan. The land was low and swampy and the family suffered badly from malaria or ague as it was then known to Farmingtion, Oakland County, MichiganG.
Others who accompanied: Elias S. Robinson, John Wesley Robinson, Margaret Alexander, Martin T. Robinson, Rebecca B. Robinson, Harmon Robinson and Sarah Robinson.4
Moved Moved: in 1840, William D. Robinson moved with William Robinson and Sophronia Kelch from from Farmington, Michigan. After months of hardship and homesickness, the entire family made the tedious journey back to thier original home to Syracuse, Onondaga County, New YorkG.
Others who accompanied: Elias S. Robinson, John Wesley Robinson, Margaret Alexander, Martin T. Robinson, Rebecca B. Robinson, Harmon Robinson and Sarah Robinson.4
Moved Moved: in 1843, William D. Robinson moved with William Robinson and Sophronia Kelch from Syracuse, New York. The spirit of adventure was in their blood and three short years later and presumably better prepared the family returned to Michigan. The family had grown and now included young Wesley and Mary, the children of John and Margaret. They settled once again in to Farmington, Oakland County, MichiganG.
Others who accompanied: Elias S. Robinson, John Wesley Robinson, Margaret Alexander, Martin T. Robinson, Caroline Amelia Owens, Harmon Robinson, Sarah Robinson, John Wesley Robinson and Mary Robinson.4
Moved Moved: in 1852, William D. Robinson moved with William Robinson and Sophronia Kelch from Farmington, Michigan. They took up land some 60 miles north in Lapeer County. They followed a blazed trail and they had to virtually cut their home out of the forest. They built houses of logs with oiled paper for windows. They had wild game and fish in abundance, but they had to conserve their little store of corn and wheat until they could harvest their first crop, which was planted on the land cleared from the forest. They raised flax and from it made linen for clothing. They spun wool into yarn and wove blankets. To buy actual necessities they made charcoal to sell and shingles by hand from logs, and then carried these products many miles to market from their new home to Oregon Twp., Lapeer County, MichiganG.
Others who accompanied: John Wesley Robinson, Margaret Alexander, John Wesley Robinson, Mary Robinson, William Alexander Robinson, Sophronia Robinson and Rebecca Robinson.4
